Frankie Wantuch, Saxophonist, Educator, Storyteller
Bio
Saxophonist and educator Frankie Wantuch has a passion for story telling through musical performance. A native of Cincinnati, OH, she grew up surrounded and inspired by the arts. Her mission as an educator and performer is to inspire others to bring their music to life.
Ms. Wantuch is the Instructor of Saxophone at Wright State University, joining in 2021, as well as Ohio University and Kenyon College, joining both in 2024. She previously served in this role at Muskingum University from 2021-2024. Additionally, she serves as a member of the 100th Army Reserve Band at Fort Knox in Kentucky, enlisting in 2017. Her teaching and military career has ignited her passion for music making.
Ms. Wantuch won the the Corbett Mayerson Award, the 2017 Ohio University Concerto Competition, and the 2018 Ohio State University Concerto Competition, and she has performed at Carnegie Hall. Her performing career has led her all over the US, several countries in Europe, most recently for the 80th D-Day celebration, and Canada. Ms. Wantuch regularly performs with New Orleans-inspired, funk brass band, Largemouth Brass Band. They released their self-titled album in the fall of 2018. Ms. Wantuch received her Master of Music in saxophone performance from The Ohio State University studying with Dr. Michael Rene Torres, and her Bachelor of Music in saxophone performance from Ohio University where she studied with Dr. Matthew James. She is currently a Doctoral student at The Ohio State University, continuing her studies with Dr. Torres.
Her hobbies include supporting local artists, running, and engaging with all things community-based in Columbus, OH.
